The origin of Casa da Música dates back to 1998, when the cities of Porto and Rotterdam were chosen as European Capitals of Culture for 2001. Architect Rem Koolhaas recovers a previous project, the “Y2K” house, to transform, shape, expand and adapt it to a radically different scale and program, presenting a building that reflects a style statement, an aesthetic convention, an unmistakable author's stamp.
